Great to see this launched. I’ll be away on the boat for 9 days over Easter - autumn cruising in. New Zealand so will have plenty of time for testing!

Hello, and thank you for inviting me! I sail a 41’ sailboat in Los Angeles, and my boat is in a charter program.

I’m very interested in improvements for monitoring, coastal cruising, and guest mode for people who charter my boat.

Hello all, I appreciate the invitation and look forward to discussing Orca in more depth. I really think it has a lot of promise and am glad the devs are open to input.

I’ll be sailing from the Carribean to the Chesapeake Bay over the next few weeks so will have plenty of time and opportunity to test the recent improvements.

Hi to all of you. I’m Martin from the Netherlands and a (almost) daily user of Orca since september last year. We sail for a living with guest and we do business related coaching as well. At the moment we sail in the Caribbean. In May we will cross to the Azores and then in December we head back to the Caribbean.

Before switching over to Orca we used iSailor. At that time I was surprised that there were not many sailors using this app as it is rock solid and has a lot of features that make navigating and planning great. After a month or so I skipped using iSailor as a backup next to Orca. Still I do miss a lot of features but I can live with that. There are a lot of things that make using Orca as the main navigation ‘plotter’ worthwhile.

I will do my best to help evaluating the beta options.
Fair winds to all! :sailboat:

We are Bryan and Jennifer, proud owners of SV Landfall (Hull #1), a 1975 Ron Amy-designed Landfall 39. After a significant five-year journey dedicated to rebuilding after extensive termite and wood rot, we are now exploring the Gulf of California in Mexico.

We started as a blank slate for our electronics, we chose Orca Core for our MFD (Multi-Function Display), which we run on our iPad Mini 5. Our current setup includes:
Raymarine i50/i60: Basic wind speed and depth instrumentation.
Standard Horizon GX2400 VHF
Yacht Devices YDAP-04: Runs our hydraulic steering
YDWG-02 WiFi Gateway

Together, we are excited to engage with fellow cruisers and contribute to improving Orca and provide any troubleshooting.

Hello Bryan.

I am considering using the Ydap-04 as a replacement for my old Garmin GHP 12 with linear motor in my sailboat. What is your experience with the ydap, and what did you use to calibrate it?

We got the Yacht Devices YDWG-02 WiFi gateway for the setup and for redundancy as you can also control the AP the via their web gauges. Do not recall the specifics but there was 4 calibrations.

We primarily use the manual buttons we built when at the cockpit helm and Orca in our pilot house. The support with YD has been really great if you have issues, and Orca has jumped onboard.

Thought it was a better solution for us vs big brand and needing a display to setup.

Check the amp on you linear drive, think the YDAP -04 is 10 amps. We have hydraulic so use about 2amps.

Holla if you have more questions

Hello lovely community, Adrien here, sailing the med for a year (and living aboard) on our Moody 40 1979.
Appart from sailing, I love spear fishing, as well as technology that can help ease our life (or even make it better!). I’m excited to be part of this community and bring my tech expertise on integrating Orca in an « old » sailboat.
Don’t hesitate to reach out.

Just started Beta testing. Not integrated with a Core yet, but I have used a lot of experience using chart plotter and device-based navigation software. I have drafted a running document of thoughts and ideas. Is it possible to attach it in this thread?
