If you follow the Orca FaceBook group, you may have seen Joris’s post Orca Owner's Club | ## **Open Letter to Orca: A Call for Transparency, Reliability, and User-Centered Improvements** | Facebook
There’s some good stuff in there, though I don’t agree with all of it. Orca, can this group/forum help in any way? I’m holding off responding in FaceBook for the moment, although there are already some “this is rubbish” comments coming in that I’ll want to refute at some stage. The world needs fewer keyboard warriors…
@OrcaDavid : quite a few good remarks in that post.
I also suggested a couple of days ago adding a map theme that puts forward legibility before looks.
The note about safety/restricted zones not being shown prominently and only at high zoom levels enough is accurate - I could have gotten into one a couple of days ago if I had only relied on Orca and not done my homework properly, so yes, that’s an important safety feature.
Tidal information is also critical - please don’t show it at all if it is not accurate enough, it can do more harm than good. There are a lot of great tidal resources around (see my other post too), why not use them?
Thanks for raising – we’ve followed up on Facebook with Joris. In particular, map related stuff is something that is already on the way and will arrive shortly.
