Started yesterday from Saint Martin. Up until now we made daytrips in the Caribe. Easy, just select the a nchorage on the map of the next island and there you go. But now when crossing the ocean I need to change back to my old navigation app iSailor. In my opinion Orca is just not ready for this kind of navigation.
I hope this is worth the effort to share it with you. Let me know.
Orca can not do more then 1300nm. Crossing to the Azores is more than 2000nm. So where to put my destination?
When I try to put a destination (waypoint) somewhere on the map If have no clue where that is. I cannot edit the gps coordinates. [Edit: someone pointed out to me that it is possible in the Explore section. There I can actually search for coordinates. ]
To navigate (and taking the weather into consideration) the way Orca shows the wind is just not enough. I need the highs and the lows. Whenever I am somewhere I need to know what will the next thing to happen. Orca leves me in the dark here. So I use PredictWind as an add on. But when I try to export the GPX route there is no way Orca imports it. After sending the route by Airdrop and I select open with Orca, Orca shows up but there is no route in the menu Spots and routes. If someone can help me here??? [Edit: I was using the latest iPad and iPhone version. Then I removed the iPad version and reïnstalled it. And that solved the iPad problem. Now it does import GPX files. So I tried that also with my iPhone and that also did the trick. ]
At the helm I use a display 2. Unfortunately at times the app stalls, closes itself completely off or it is in the middle of editing a intsrument panel and more. Furthermore a lot of times when trying to zoom in the display (also goes for iPad/iPhone) all of the sudden changes to some other part of the world. Sometimes when selecting a different route on one device ends up being displayed on the other app as some sort of connecting of both courses. Unfortunately I thought I’ve take a picture but that has to wait.
The wind rose doesn’t have a feature to choose for apparent wind. Also do I miss the appearance of the rose link the one on the Raymarine instrument. It is something a lot of sailors are used to. For me that shows in a simple way the no sailing zones (higher than 30 or lower than 150) with only the needle that moves. Would be great to have the option to choose my preferred wind rose.
Before leaving the bay of saint Martin we needed to pass a really shallow part. Luckily we did it before when we came into the bay. But it is not possible to see this previous route while navigating.
Around the Caribbean islands there are a lot of places with special meanings (swimming zone, fishing zone). On my other navigation app iSailor a lot of times it gives me information on these places where Orca is not even mentioning them. For example the exclusion zone at Montserat where you may not navigate because of Vulcanic activity.
Also the absence of an AIS alarm really makes Orca for now and for me not the navigation system that I can rely on. Because we also sail at night we need to have this alarm.
@Martin_Hordijk Thanks for your feedback. The team is evaluating this feedback as we speak.
Some comments on your feedback to clarify a few points.
We were not aware of this issue, we’ll try to reproduce on our end.
Do you mean that routes are being mixed / combined?
The wind rose already shows the Apparent Wind and can be extended with instruments if required for showing more data. Could you please explain what else you are missing?
Orca Core broadcasts Wind Data via NMEA2000, so it should be available for your Raymarine instruments. If they can not use it, there is little else we can do at this point.

This is a partly a result of water/salt on the screen. When this happens Display 2 really start to come alive and operating on itself. Why it got completely stalled a couple of times? I don’t know.

I don’t know. Sort of. I added 3 photos/ screenshots. I even saw a destination south of Africa (we are sailing from Bermuda to the Azores (not Africa ).

I know I can add a lot of instruments, which is amazing, but that all takes a lot of space from the actual map. I would like to have the option to choose which wind information I see. We were used to ‘sail’ on the apparent wind. That gives us a clue when to reef. But most of all (see your next question) I really miss the layout of the ‘normal’ Raymarine i60 wind rose. That really gives us direct information on the ‘none sailing’ zones (0-30 degrees and 180-150 degrees). And I don’t want to swipe left or right to go to another panel to see this info. And I really think that I’m not alone here.

I’m afraid that my English was bothering me here. I hope that I explained myself a little bit better here above.
